![]() I've seen the movie a few times on the shelf of the video library and thought about renting it, but I could never bring myself to pull the trigger. I don't care how good you tell me a movie is, if I find out it's black and white then you've lost a potential viewer. It prolly has something to do with my latent ADHD which is really just my cockamamie excuse for saying I'm too lazy to pay attention, but I needs some color when I'm watching the telly. On a whim, I got the chance to see the classic Ingmar Bergman film The Seventh Seal and my oh my.įirst, let me say that I can't usually bang with black and white movies. Outside of the same big summer movies everybody else has seen and some other art-house flicks, I've had the chance to catch some classics, like Annie Hall, for the first time, and rewatch some others. It's not out yet, and really this post is more of a reminder to myself to check for it in the coming weeks, but if you're like me then keep clicking this link until it says it's available for purchase.Īmong other things, this summer has allowed me to watch a crazy amount of movies, new and old. Along with giving a history of typography, it's designed for people like me, normal folk with below-Chinese handwriting abilities, and uses activities to help you learn the art of lettering. I admire them so much, that I might cop this book so I can be like them and regain my lost prominence as a handwriter par excellence. You know, those people who can write straight without lines on the paper? Or people whose handwriting looks like comic sans or helvetica without even trying? Yeah, I think those people are cool. I'm not sure why, but why question God? He chose the Jews to write the Bible, the Mexicans to have excellent landscaping skills, and the Chinese to have great handwriting. Experience has shown that these people are usually Chinese (read: Asian) and almost always female. ![]() I've always been a fan of people with good handwriting. All that evil energy worked its way out my body through my hands. I also had learned how to behave in school by that point, which prolly meant my handwriting suffered as I tried to keep myself from saying and doing inappropriate things to my classmates and teachers. Not enough space for a young scholar to express himself. I was an architect with lines and curves, ya dig? I'm not sure why or when I stopped writing neatly, but I think it had something to do with learning cursive and moving from wide-ruled to college-ruled paper. My teachers would fawn over my penmanship as though I were the Frank Lloyd Wright of writing. ![]() Disfruta.įrom about kindergarten to 3rd grade, I had impeccable handwriting. Pistols and Palm Trees is a bonafide banger. Still, being the cynic that I am, I didn't bet the house that Skeme could deliver an album's worth of verses as enjoyable as that one verse, not cuz I didn't believe, but just because that would be foolish to assume. ![]() And that's just on top of the fact that dude can rap. It's a nuance that many a rapper spends years tryna grasp before they get it right (Dom Kennedy being a prime example). ![]() The first thing that struck me about him was his poise on the track. I first heard Skeme in his scene-stealing verse from "Play On" on Dom Kennedy's Westside. While there are a few talented artists tryna get noticed, even many of those are still struggling to not sound like pubescent High School Musical dropouts. New rappers are a dime penny a dozen nowadays, and most suck horse cajones. ![]() ![]() ![]() Mint's dashboard gives a quick summary of your personal finances at a glance. ![]() ![]() If you're switching, that's probably the most comfortable combination. In my view, Capture One is the most direct Lightroom alternative, and Affinity Photo the closest Photoshop analogue. I am also currently experimenting with a combination of digikam and RawTherapee, the open-source organizer and raw developer, respectively (both free). I've also covered Bridge and Camera Raw: one easy, affordable, old-school setup is to use Adobe Bridge to organize your files and Adobe Camera Raw for processing your raws - both are a free download if you have older Adobe software - plus whatever image editing program meets your budget and needs. And, because of the way the Lightroom catalogue system works, the photo files themselves are not inter-operable with other programs to the degree I'd like (though work-arounds exist). Adobe does add some pretty amazing new features from time to time but, for me, who doesn't actually use half of them, it's hard to justify the continuing expense. Lightroom does not actually need many new features it's already a mature program. For me, the reasons to look elsewhere come down to two things. I've included notes on Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, but, figuring that if you are reading this you are considering other options, left them for last. Photoshop Elements is $69.99, Bridge and Adobe Camera Raw are unlocked with an existing license. These two programs are now free for anyone with a copy of Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. Bridge plays nicely with all of the image-editor options above on this list, and it can do all of the critical parts of organizing that Lightroom can do, but without locking you in. The Develop panel in Lightroom is, more or less, a wrapper for Adobe Camera Raw. I own a copy of this software (for a Mac). Affinity Photo supports Photoshop actions, plugins, and the Nik collection by DxO. If you are looking for a Photoshop alternative that feels familiar, Affinity Photo is an easy one the keyboard shortcuts, tools and layout you learned in Photoshop are all here, along with powerful retouching, compositing, and workflow capabilities. 22 Best Photo Editing Software for PC Affinity Photo However, beyond commissioning the article AMS has not told me what to write these are my opinions. This review was sponsored by AMS Software and features their software, PhotoWorks. I have tried to capture in a few words what each program can do and who it's for, but, obviously, there is more to each of them. I haven't mentioned all the programs available out there, just the ones I have used or tried. I haven't covered every detail and this list is not exhaustive. Nevertheless, I am happy to say that there are a few new, fun, intuitive, high-quality, and affordable photo editing programs worth your consideration. In the interests of running this part of the website I try out new photo suites from time to time to see what the alternatives are like, but I haven't performed any standard testing beyond my own idiosyncratic photographic processes. For a long time Adobe's Lightroom and Photoshop were the standard combo for Windows users but new alternatives now present plenty of interesting options: There are lots of neat ways process your photos without an Adobe subscription and we look at some combinations below. Most people need at least two or three photo programs to complete their workflow: a file organizer to get and sort photos, a raw image converter to interpret the data from cameras, and a raster image editor (one that works with pixels). ![]() ![]() The lack of pen pressure is a huge pain though.idk if they fixed that yet. It's also made for image manipulation, not really drawing. Paint.NET: Basically a photoshop wannabe. Its layout is very similar to photoshop, but it's lacking in tools and usefulness. I'm not sure if downloading 1.1 is legal anymore, but you can try if you like living life on the edge. I believe they used to put 1.1 for download on their front page, but I can't seem to find it anymore. It used to be freeware, but all versions of OC beyond 1.1 are now paid software. To be honest, I'd even say OC 1.1 is basically MsPaint but with layers. Imagine a super basic form of Corel Painter. OpenCanvas1.1: Extremely basic painting software. The functions are very basic, but they're good enough to do simple drawings with. ![]() NekoPaint: It's basically an older FireAlpaca, imo. The infinite scaling threw me off though. ![]() Nothing particular to note, if I remember correctly. It's a vector based program, so if you're looking into one. I heard there's no layer and limited colors and brushes, but it'll do for casual drawing. The only problem is that it requires a lot of memory and processing power.Use a high power computer or suffer frequent crashes. It's also very good for BW comics because it comes with tones and hatch brushes. The learning curve is a bit hard, but it's a very powerful freeware once you get to know it. Krita: Also a photoshop-like program but more geared towards drawing. You can draw with it, but it's not specially made for drawing so it's not as convenient. But it's for image manipulation, like photoshop. I haven't used it in years, but from what I remember it was really good. I've personally had difficulty using it because it seems like my lines are coming from the opposite end of the brush.? Some people might have problems with that as well so just putting that out there. It doesn't have a lot of functions for advanced drawing it's basically a simpler+free form of SAI. But it doesn't have all the useful tools you need for more advanced drawings unless you buy Pro.įirealpaca: Very easy to use but is also very simple. The layout can be a bit awkward for many people, but it becomes really convenient once you get used to it. Feel free to add on stuff from your own experiences.Īutodesk Sketchbook: Really nice brushes, but like Kirita the learning curve sucks. I'll try to sum up all the programs everyone listed. That's stupid.", but they have THE BEST paint bucket o-ó No kidding, it fills so perfectly (with 1 in the expand box, but way better than Clip Studio and Photoshop for that purpose) It is more for art, so it has that brush stabilizer thing (I love that), and the paint actually blend, I think that's really nice =33 (but the text tool is horrible) And it is really good (mostly since it is a free software). FireAlpaca!!! It is for free and is available for both MAC and Windows. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I did Elma's first Affinity Mission, a little ironic it's doable from the start, because her second was the thing I saved for very last on Miran Survey, and its two level 70 Sphinxes are the strongest Affinity Mission enemies around. Mira's extra size is maybe somewhat "wasted" on being gargantuan. But XC1 and 2 have sub-regions too, one can readily divide Uraya into the front half + Garfont and the back half and Fonsa Myma, even Tephra Cave isn't the same scenery throughout either. XCX does have distinctive sub-regions in every region, southern and northern Noctilum as an example. But they do provide more variety to an extent. The three Greek series each consist of five books while KC and MC each have three books. There are also several spinoff books including a Percy Jackson/Kane Chronicles crossover, but these aren't required reading even if some stories in them are acknowledged in the main books. Magnus Chase is its own thing but is set around the same time as Trials of Apollo. The Trials of Apollo series is a direct sequel to The Heroes of Olympus, and its final book will release later this year. There's also the Magnus Chase (protagonist of this one is the cousin of one of the main characters of PJ and HoO) and Apollo books but i don't know where these fall into the timeline.
